Redesigning Reach: Community-Based Research In Action – Part 1
We recently partnered with Citeline to explore how industry leaders view clinical trials and the growing shift toward community-based research. To better understand these trends, we surveyed 130 leaders from biotech companies, pharmaceuticals and CROs to get their thoughts on community-based research and its effectiveness in bringing trials closer to patients. This article kicks off a new series highlighting key findings from our survey.
Why Community-Based Research Matters
Improved patient retention, enhanced data accuracy and increased trial diversity are emerging as the top perceived benefits of community-based research. While this approach hasn’t been fully embraced across the industry, it’s becoming standard practice for some organizations. In fact, 36.2% of respondents said they have fully integrated community-based research into their studies.
Top Perceived Benefits
When comparing traditional site-based models, respondents who use community-based approaches in their research cited several benefits:
- 69% cite improved patient retention.
- 68% feel community-based approaches have improved data quality.
- 63% cite greater diversity among study participants.
- 63% report shorter trial timelines.
Data Quality Perceptions
Confidence in the quality of data collected was a major factor among respondents who preferred traditional site-based models versus those who are expanding into community-based models. Nearly half of respondents (47%) believe community-based research delivers the same quality as traditional models, while 42% say it offers higher quality. Only 11% perceive it as lower quality, challenging the assumption that community-based methods compromise rigor.
How EmVenio Bridges the Gap
As research groups work to make clinical research faster and more inclusive, community-based research is gaining traction industry-wide. At EmVenio, we offer a range of community-based solutions designed to bring trials closer to patients and bridge the gap between science and people. Our clinicians live and work in the communities we serve, enabling us to meet patients where it’s most convenient through our network of Community Research Sites, dedicated Research Centers within local health care facilities, virtual visits and mobile visits directly in patients’ homes. This approach has proven to expand reach, accelerate enrollment, shorten study timelines and boost retention.
Stay tuned as we continue this series in part 2, where we’ll dive into the biggest barriers preventing broader adoption of community-based research. Want to learn how EmVenio can support your next study? Contact us today.
